Eric Milton Nicholls – A Biography
Eric Nicholls born 1902 grew up in a small remote rural town in Linton, near Ballarat Victoria Australia.
He was articled at an early age to the British affiliated Haddon & Henderson Architects & Engineers after his family moved to Kew
This was the post world war one period. It was after Australia’s federation when the design competition of Canberra; Australia’s new capital city; was awarded to American Architect Walter Burley Griffin. Griffins views were way ahead of the time.
At the age of 19 with articles completed Eric commences work for Walter Burley Griffin. Walters wife and working partner Marion Mahony Griffin soon discovers Eric’s special skills.
Marie reveals the social, heritage, functional and design ascetics of Eric’s buildings over his life and the influence the Griffins and Rudolf Steiner had in shaping his final direction in life.
